History of the Neapolitan panuozzo

The Neapolitan panuozzo is a typical sandwich of the culinary tradition of Naples, a city famous for its gastronomic delicacies. This delicious street food was born as a variant of the Neapolitan stuffed sandwich, characterized by a soft bread and a filling full of flavors.

The history of panuozzo dates back to the 1970s, when some Neapolitan bakers had the intuition to replace traditional bread with a softer and tastier version. Initially, panuozzo was prepared using the bread from the stuffed sandwich, but it soon became a food in its own right.

In the following years, the Neapolitan panuozzo conquered the hearts of the Neapolitans and spread throughout the Campania region. Today it is considered a true symbol of Neapolitan street food culture.
